Our Story

August Gill Apparel was founded by Rannette A., a Black woman, daughter of a Belizean immigrant, Eastside Detroit native, mother, and wife, who realized she had been quieting parts of herself for far too long.

In 2020, amid the challenges of a pandemic and a renewed call for social change, Rannette began creating wearable messages as a personal reminder to speak up and live authentically. What started as a deeply personal act quickly resonated with others—sparking conversations, connection, and demand.

The name August Gill represents the blending of maternal and paternal lineage, honoring the history, strength, and individuality that shape who she is and who she continues to become.

Our Why

August Gill Apparel exists to inspire conversation through self-expression.

We believe clothing can do more than look good—it can create connection. Our designs encourage people to use their voice, stand firm in their truth, and be unapologetically heard.

Whether your message invites dialogue or simply earns a knowing nod, August Gill Apparel is about showing up as yourself—bold, authentic, and empowered.
